How do I start my own flower garden and what flowers are perfect for all year round??
%26quot;All year round flowers%26quot; are perennials. I%26#039;d suggest you start by checking out www.burpee.com and www.parkseed.com or google %26quot;perennial plants%26quot; and you will get a plethora of catalogs to look through. Why do flower seeds take so much longer to germinate than vegetable seeds ? And they are so little !?

Many flower seeds are designed to travel through a bird%26#039;s intestines first, and/or pass through a very cold winter spell. See why size matters?

Most of the food seeds we currently use are hybrids, the results of dozens of years of fooling with. One desirable trait is fast germination.

Also most beans can be dried, then boosted with things like innoculants to germinate faster.c++

How can I get my Japanese Peace Lilly to flower??

any ideas??
How can I get my Japanese Peace Lilly to flower??
If you are talking about plant known as a Peace or Swan Lily, mine flowers almost continuously in the bathroom. It seems to enjoy the steamy atmosphere; I never let the soil dry out - it probably has half a cup of water a day.

Sometimes fertilising a plant actually stops it from flowering because it puts everything into producing leaves and doesn%26#039;t %26quot;feel%26quot; the need to reproduce; the flower is often a last ditch stand by a parent plant to make sure the species doesn%26#039;t die out.

My father was an orchid grower and he would be deliberately unkind to a plant which refused to flower - withhold water long enough to make it %26quot;think%26quot; there was a drought for example. This would be enough to spark off the need to reproduce by growing a flower!loan

Is santan flower or ixora coccinea staminate or pistillate?

I%26#039;m not 100% certain here, but I%26#039;m thinking they are both male (stamens)and female (pistil) in the same flower. Staminate and pistillate mean there are separate male and female flowers either on the same plant, making it a monoecious, or on two separate plants (such as holly) making that species dioecious.

Tear open a flower and look down in the tube for both the stamens and the pistil.loan

Reply:you can plant 4 o%26quot;clock seeds now for bloom in the summer. It takes them awhile to germinate.they will make a root in a couple of years......Touch me knots, purple cone flower.......
Reply:is not this is what nature does you can help take a hard rake and pull the rake once to the north and then to the south across the ground
Reply:Almost anything will, if you have enough seeds. Some will sprout, and if you put down a gazillion, that%26#039;s enough to have flowers. That%26#039;s how the plants do it themselves, after all. However, they don%26#039;t have to pay $2.95 for a small quantity of seeds.

I would pull out whatever%26#039;s big and would compete, rake the area so the seeds can get into the soil, spread the seed, and rake again so the seed is turned under. Then water regularly until they sprout. That%26#039;s the lazy-gardener version of actually planting the area %26quot;the right way%26quot;.

I do this when I have a few handsful of wildflower seeds. It works for black-eyed susans, coneflowers, pinks, wild shasta-type daisies. It also works for the more vigorously seed-producing garden flowers, like cosmos, calendula, and marigold. You can gather a lot of seed from them if you let the last blooms of the season go to seed.
Reply:I%26#039;m going to send you back to your very own web site that you posted and there you will find a seed packet for the %26quot;Fleur de lawn%26quot;

Are all flower bulbs perennials?

All flower bulbs are designed by nature to be perennials. That%26#039;s the point of the bulb, they are food storage organs for dormant plants.

However many bulbs, particularly summer flowering bulbs, are not winter hardy in colder regions where they are planted by gardeners. If they are not dug up, they die. They are treated by gardeners in these regions as annuals, however in a warmer climate or during a mild winter, they would be perennials.
Are all flower bulbs perennials?
nope
Reply:No, not all bulbs are perennials but most are.

By definition a perennial is a plant that lives at least 3 years.

As for spring flowering bulbs: A lot of tulips die after the 1st or 2nd year but there is a cultivar of tulip that lives for many years it is called %26#039;Darwin%26#039;. Daffodils, however, will live for a long time and multiply. Muscari live a long life and also multiply.
Reply:It really depends where you live. For instance I live in Norhtern Alberta, and very few bulbs come back unless there very hardy. (Or Tulips)

For us, most bulbs are annuals.
Reply:The definition of a bulb is any plant that stores its complete life cycle in an underground storage structure. The primary function of these underground storage structures is to store nutrient reserves to ensure the plants%26#039; survival, hence giving it the ability to survive and start the cycle of life all over again next year. However most sources say that flower bulbs are %26quot;usually perennial.%26quot; I can%26#039;t think of any examples of an annual bulb, only climates that lend to these bulbs blooming just once and then dying down completely. So in my opinion all bulbs have the ability and structure to be classified as perennials, but some of them are not able to fufill this life cycle due to foreign climates and other factors.Soles

When a flower is fully bloomed, how do you feel?

i think its beautiful, but it also makes me sad because i know it will eventually wither and die.
When a flower is fully bloomed, how do you feel?
Good question. One of my plants bloom only once a year, and I enjoy the event from the budding until it falls off the stem.

I immortalize its beauty through pictures.

Then I sadly pick up the fallen blooms and start my wait again for next year.
Reply:peace, wish it was all just that easy.
Reply:Anyone feeling sad to see a fully bloomed flower is the ultimate pessimist. I revel in its beauty and am experienced enough to know it will not last long, hence I do not mourn its impending demise but cherish it more in its full beauty...
Reply:Both sad and happy for it has both actualized its potential as well as reached the place where and when it must begin to die.
Reply:Blessed for so many reasons. First of all to be able to SEE the Beauty. Second to be able to have taken the time to stop and admire this beautiful Creation upon Mother Earth. Enjoying the silence and stillness. Thirdly, to be eye to eye with something so small yet so strong is humbleing and makes one view the world from a different view. Fourthy....I realize that this flower came from a seed....and will produce a seed, all going well for the flower,....that in turn will produce another....I could go on...but i will stop now...4 is a good number.

Every seed holds a promise...and to be able to see a world of beauty inside a single flower...is a gift indeed.

Peace and Love to all

How did Flower die on Meerkat Manor?

Yes. She followed a king cobra into the burrow to save her pups. But the snake bit her on the head/neck. Does anybody know how to put together a nice flower arrangement for a wedding?

We ordered flowers from a wholesaler because it way so much cheaper. I don%26#039;t have any experience with this so please help me!
Does anybody know how to put together a nice flower arrangement for a wedding?
Dont know if you are doing bouquets or table arrangements. If they are bouquets get bouquet holders from Michaels or Walmart..put greenery around the back first, then main flowers..roses or carns, then fill in with babies breath. For table arrangements put oasis (water holding foam type )in container, again put greens in first, then major flowers in a wagon wheel type pattern, then fill in with babies breath or greens or something small
Reply:I put flowers together for two weddings. It depends on what you are looking for. I am not a crafty person but one wedding I was in and I was just trying to get the bride not to have a breakdown. The other was my best friend%26#039;s wedding and I helped her sister in law (who was a florist). But I did put together the bouquet.

First wedding...unopened roses. white and red. We put five white roses in the middle and surrounded it with red roses...we used wire and wound each one together. Then we used wide white and red ribbon to cover the outside wire and curled it with the scissor. We tied to together the white roses first and then the read onto the outside until we had three rings around. That is a very classy look.

Second wedding. Bride ordered flowers...florist went out of business two days before wedding and would not do wedding (actually I think they went bankrupt). Did give us whatever in stock that we wanted. We filled up two buckets of flowers. We had carnations, baby%26#039;s breath, roses, etc. Her bridesmaids dresses were dark pink for the maid of honor and light pink for everyone else. We actually went to the dress store and asked them for extra fabric from the dresses (I had to order a size 16 for my chest but my skirt size is 8) we had a lot of fabric from my skirt (plus they took off three four inches from the bottom). Friend%26#039;s Mom sewed little flower pouches and glued white lace on the outside edges and everything was beatiful. I wish I had pictures.

You can do anything as long as it goes with the event. If it is early day casual, you might want to have litte baskets or just hand tied ribbons on flowers. If it is formal, you want it to be more uniform and tighter. Just look in the bridal magazines and see what you like.

My orchid flower stem died.?

My orchid flower stem died.?
If the stem is brown, cut it off---if it stays green leave it alone. It will eventually grow new stems with buds. Most of my orchids only bloom once or twice a year--just let them do their thing, and you will be pleasantly surprised1

They wore tie-dye shirts, bell bottom jeans, flowers in their hair, men and women grew their hair out really long. They wore sandals or went barefoot, peace symbol necklaces, headbands across their foreheads, ...
Reply:They wore whatever they felt comfortable in at the time. I was a %26quot;flower child%26quot; living in San Francisco%26#039;s Haight-Ashbury in the late 1960s, so I speak from experience. I would usually wear bell-bottom jeans, a T-shirt and, if it was chilly, an Army-surplus jacket. I dress pretty much the same way to this day (I was in my 20s then, am now in my 60s -- still live in SF Bay Area), except with regular jeans, not bell-bottoms, and the Army-surplus jacket has been replaced with a windbreaker or a leather bomber jacket. Women would often wear long %26quot;granny dresses,%26quot; jeans, shorts, whatever fit their mood at the time. Headbands, beads and peace symbol pendants were popular accessories for both men and women.

What preservatives should i add to flower lillies to last in hostpital and what is the flower vase life?

According to Publication 8113 from the University of California you can use the following mixtures to supply food for the flowers and enough acidity to deter microbial activity.

1. Lemon-lime soda mixture. Mix 1 part regular lemon-lime soda (not diet) with 3 parts warm water. Add 1/4 teaspoon of household bleach per quart of this solution.

2. Lemon juice mixture. Mix 2 tablespoons of lemon juice (fresh or bottled), 1 tablespoon of sugar, and 1/4 teaspoon of bleach per quart of warm water. Check the level of the vase solution in your container daily, and replenish it. Add 1/4 teaspoonful of bleach per quart to the container every three or four days.

Cut flowers will last longer if kept cool, and most will tolerate temps as low as 32 degrees. Don%26#039;t put them in direct sunlight, near heater vents or the fireplace.
What preservatives should i add to flower lillies to last in hostpital and what is the flower vase life?
Cut the ends of them, put them in fresh cold water %26amp; add some lemonade., keep them out of the sun or hot areas. They should last up to 2 weeks.
Reply:I presume you are referring to cut flowers.

Put a tablet of aspirin or some sugar in the vase of water and all your flower would last longer not just the lilies.

As to your flower vase, depending on the material it%26#039;s made from and how carefully you handle it, it can even last you your lifetime.c++

What the best way and right equipment to make flower arrangement delivery in station wagon?

I need to make a flowers arrangements delivery in a station wagon car from the store to customers’ home, 4 - 5 at the time.

Some times containers have a square or round shape, glass or porcelain.
What the best way and right equipment to make flower arrangement delivery in station wagon?
When I was still in the business we had a wooden frame with heavy rubber tubing nailed into a grid patter. This will hold the odd shapes and keep them in place. Good Luckloan

First year flower gardener. What do I do for winter?

I have perennials and annuals. Some things say to %26quot;cut back%26quot; but I really don%26#039;t know what that is. Do I cut it off at the ground or just trim it?

Here are some of what I have:

Blue Potato Bush - most leaves have fallen off.

Various Burberry and Boxwood - most burberry leaves have fallen.

Calla Lilies - really would love those back next year.

Foxglove - was mostly leafy this year

Burning bush

Summer Nights Larkspur

Hydrangea

Mums

Various annuals: marigold, cosmos, others

your perennials should be trimmed [the cutting back part] pretty decently, depending on the plant.

I sowed flower seed, sunflower varieties, cosmos, delphinium, johnny jump ups, impatiens will they die??

I mulched over them with 2 inches of woodchip mulch! Can they sprout with mulch over them? LV Nev. It%26#039;s 40 degrees at night 50 in the day. Help!
I sowed flower seed, sunflower varieties, cosmos, delphinium, johnny jump ups, impatiens will they die??
They may rot before they germinate. Now isn%26#039;t the time to plant seeds outdoors (too cold). They are also planted too deep. 2%26quot; of mulch is quite a bit. Most seeds only need 1/8 to 1/4 inch of soil covering them. All you can do is hope and wait until conditions allow them to germinate...

...$Billy Ray$
Reply:Your welcome Fae. And if they don%26#039;t germinate, you can always reseed again...Billy Ray Report It

Reply:well.. the sunflower and cosmos.. not to sure on the others.. especially the jump ups.. good luck
Reply:Well, I was gonna suggest waiting til after the first frost is past. But since you%26#039;re in Vegas, probably not much danger in that. Your seeds and seedlings should do just fine, especially if you%26#039;ve mulched them well. You probably want to pull the mulch back away from the seedlings. As long as the temps don%26#039;t fall below 40 and there%26#039;s no danger of frost, they should be ok.

BTW, 2 inches of mulch is not a great deal. Depending on the seed type, they may be able to grow thru it. But they may sprout quicker with the mulch pulled back to allow sunlight to hit the dirt directly.
Reply:start your seeds indoors under a plant lightloan

No card, flower or gift on B'day?

yet another B%26#039;day with out any gifts or card from my hubby. My husband loves me and I do too, but somehow somewhere he thinks that going together to buy a gift, about a week or so after your b%26#039;day is equal good as b%26#039;day gift. Where as I always felt some thing as simple as a rose on b%26#039;day that he brings home could be of real importance. Is it a Man vs woman thing??

but, he %26quot;forgets%26quot; when he gets to the store.....

to each his own, i guess?//
Reply:Yes he loves you but he takes you for granted. Don%26#039;t let him. Arguing will most probably not help. Jus briefly tell him you were disappointed from him and let it go (for now). You need to work on the underlying problem - the taking for granted. Perhaps you could try revive the excitement in the relationship.
Reply:NO ITS A LAZY THING!
Reply:okay, my best friend%26#039;s husband is like this

what we did to solve the problem a couple of years ago (after five years of NO gifts at all) was go out ourselves shopping, SHe picked out something she really liked. We bought it (on their joint credit card) and then wrapped it up and stuck a birthday card with it (blank) so he could sign the card and give it to her.

We made sure the gift was out, with the card, next to his keys on the morning of her birthday, with a note that said something like, %26quot;Sign this card for me, thanks%26quot;

She gets what she wants and he doesn%26#039;t have to lie and make excuses for days on end about why he didn%26#039;t go out and get her anything. But you know, after that ONE time, he has never forgotten her birthday again. :)
Reply:Its a man vs woman thing....it isnt important at all that we guys have our birthdays acknowledged, we really dont care, for us our birthdays arent a big deal at all just another day......Now xmas, anniversary, thats a different story
Reply:I myself don%26#039;t care about that stuff. My guy treats me great, I don%26#039;t need a gift to know he loves me. Everyone has different needs.
Reply:The most important thing is that you feel the love from your husband. If you guys are in love that is the most important things gifts are good but love from the heart is the best.
Reply:My husband is the same way. I would rather he came home and just grabbed me and kissed me and said Happy Birthday than to wait until his day off and give me money to go buy a present. Some men need to be more thoughtful. This year I didn%26#039;t buy him anything for his birthday, he brought it up to me LOL
Reply:Next birthday, throw a party for yourself or have one of your friends throw you a %26quot;surprise%26quot; birthday party and have them basically force your husband to help them throw it while he%26#039;s supposed to keep it a %26quot;secret%26quot;.

After a few birthday%26#039;s of this, he should %26quot;get%26quot; that he has to do something ON, BY, and FOR your birthday.

By the way, it%26#039;s an %26quot;I don%26#039;t care%26quot; thing.

He will now be shamed into caring.

Other men giving you gifts on your party that he helped host will take care of that!

Are Sun Flower Seeds Good For You ?

I have recently started eating them and after a bit of practice I can eat a bag in one sitting because they are so morish. Just wondered if they are good or bad for you.
Are Sun Flower Seeds Good For You ?
Sunflower seeds contain both monounsaturated and poly unsaturated fat, the types of fat that may protect the heart. They are also a good source of Vitamin E, selenium which is often deficient in our diet and other important nutrients such as magnesium, potassium, iron and zinc. Therfore they are definitely good for you!
Reply:They are very good for you.

Carry on eating them

Joanne G
Reply:There good for you.
Reply:Sunflower seeds contain vitamin E and are low in saturated fat, much like the sunflower oil that is often used in baking and frying.

The only bad thing with sunflower seeds that you get in the store is that they may have been soaked in salt water and dried, which gives them that very salty flavor. People on low-sodium diets would be wise to avoid these.

And if you are eating the type with no shell, they also tend to have been salted, but what is worse is that they may have been lightly fried or sprayed with peanut oil to help the salt adhere to them. Peanut oil is high in saturated fats.

Make sure to get the unsalted variety and check the package ingredients.
Reply:only a little at time is good too much will affect the prostate
Reply:Yes They are Good Source of Vitamin E and also A Source of Good Fat.
Reply:Very good for you. If they%26#039;re unsalted! Don%26#039;t eat the shells! LOL!
Reply:Yes, they are!!!.....but the sodium will kill you.
Reply:Sunflower seeds are a good source of potassium and phosphorous. Eating more than 5 ounces a week can cut heart-attack deaths in women by 40% and help prevent deadly irregular heart beats in men a Harvard University study found. So yes they can be good for you.
Reply:yes
Reply:very good, have good omega oils in them.
Reply:Any %26quot;whole%26quot; food in moderation is good for you. The only downfall with sunflower seeds is that whrn packaged they tend to be full of sodium. So as i said moderation is good for anybody!
Reply:yes,,,they are high in protein
Reply:yes they are very good for you if you like them try roasted pumpkin seeds they are lovely as well.affiliate

Why does flower smell funky if not in water rightaway?

Because they are dying, and as a result, as they wilt and breakdown, gasses are created and released by bacteria, and evaporation of water within the flowers causes odors to be noticable

Hope this helps,

Dave
Why does flower smell funky if not in water rightaway?
Flowers smell bad because their stems start to rot as soon as they are picked. Changing the water regularly for cut flowers is just about the only way to keep this from happening.
Reply:Because flowers are living things and do poo as well, it%26#039;s true and their poo stinks, so if not in water, you gotta cut the stem every now and thenperforming arts
